By planning ahead, you can easily become more visible to your social audience
Most people think that they’ve nailed the business basics of social media. Regardless of which platform you use, you’ve probably already got yourself a displayed logo, background image and great content. But if you’re not getting much engagement from your audience you need to ask yourself why? I’d put my money on lack of consistency.
Consistency is key when it comes to social media. Social media marketing is a slow burn - it takes time and just because you are present, doesn’t mean you’ll be seen! Your target audience needs to ‘see you show up’ to recognise your brand. When they see you regularly, they feel comfortable in your presence and are more likely to engage, building traction and driving website traffic.
There are 4 main elements that you should be consistent in and these are:
Voice – Tone is everything. But to get the right tone, you need to know who you are talking to. This is where researching your customer demographics is key; you’d be using a totally different tone with millennials than you would with Generation X. You must consider age, location, gender and interests and find the right tone for your audience – be a voice that they will understand and connect with.
Content – You need to elicit a response from your audience, so your content needs to be targeted. It’s no use posting for the sake of it; it’s a wasted opportunity. By posting valuable and well thought out content, you will get better engagement and be seen as an expert in your business sector. Share other people’s posts to your platform if it adds value and is of interest. Keep it relevant, ethical and interesting, to safeguard your brand.
Brand aesthetics – Visual appeal is vital. People are naturally attracted to things that look good! Are your brand colours or theme consistent throughout your socials – are you easily identifiable? Create consistency and co-ordination throughout your images and graphics. Keep your posts short and sweet; there’s nothing worse than War and Peace in a post. Use hashtags to jump into relevant conversational groups too.
